The Sunday Riley Experiment

I have a confession: I’m a total skin care junkie.

For those of you who know me, you already know this. I love trying new products, masks, etc. Especially all the new K beauty stuff that has become popular recently. But after my recent move, it became apparent just how MUCH I have.

Which is bad for a few reasons: 1) hello hoarder status, 2) I end up with a bunch of mismatched, half used products, and 3) a lot of the stuff goes bad or dries out because I have so much to use I never get around to finishing anything.

So I made a few decisions… I got rid of a TON of stuff and vowed to use up my favorites before starting anything new and when I wanted to try something new, I would get products from the same line, since obviously they are supposed to work the best when used together. I was about out of my most recent favorite, Drunk Elephant, so I asked you guys what one I should try next and the opinion was widely Sunday Riley.

After doing some research, speaking to some of you on your experiences, I decided on these six products to use as my new skin care system over the next few weeks. I’ll be committing to only using these products (with one exception.. more on that later) so I can tell specifically if they are working without any outside influences.

Here are the six products I landed on, I’ll give a little explanation of each along with how and when I plan to use them. I’ve now been using these products for the last 6 months and I am absolutely obsessed. I’ve already reordered twice and can definitely tell the difference when I don’t use them and have since bough the travel size versions so I can have great skin even when I’m away!

Update: January 2019 – After 7 months of use

I am still using all of these products daily and even added another, the U.F.O. Face Oil. Here’s an update on my routine, with a few tips as well. I will still keep the original post and info below this too for reference!

  • In the morning I cleanse with the Ceramic Slip Cleanser and don’t usually use anything else.
  • At night, I wash my face with Blue Moon, it is great at removing makeup. Tip: Do not apply any water on your face, use about 1 teaspoon of product and massage it into your dry face completely, I focus on my eyes too, so I can make sure all my mascara comes off. Once its fully melted into the skin, then start mixing in warm water and gently using circular motions to further cleanse, and then rinse.
  • Then, I use the Martian Toner – and this is a BIG Tip: I have always had trouble with getting facial oils to absorb into my skin – felt like they just stayed on the surface, but not any longer! I use a half pump of the toner + 3-4 drops of oil and mix together in my palms before patting into my face. This is a GAME CHANGER. It absorbs so well and quickly.
  • I started alternating every other night between the Luna and the U.F.O. oil, I don’t really get breakouts, but the Luna was just a little too much for me to use every night.
  • After a few minutes (aka me putting on PJs) I use a pump of the Good Genes and use all over my face and down my neck. Sometimes I stop there, but if I feel like my face needs a little more moisturizing, I will apply a thick later of the Tidal cream right before bed.

And that’s it! I absolutely love these products and have tried maybe 1-2 other brands during the last few months and nothing has compared. And the few times I traveled and didn’t have these with me, I could totally tell the difference in my skin, so I highly recommend. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser
A balancing, deep-clean cleanser, powered with pore-perfecting French green clay and Morrocan rhassoul clay. This skin-balancing cleanser purifies the complexion while visibly tightening the appearance of pores for clear, healthy-looking skin.

How I’ll use it: Each morning I’ll use this to cleanse my face before applying the Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream and makeup.

Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm
A hydrating cleansing balm that removes makeup—even stubborn eye makeup—and impurities with sugar-based cleansers as soothing essential oils calm irritation. A luxurious balm-to-milk, soft blue cleansing balm that effortlessly removes makeup and impurities using gentle, clean-rinsing, cleansers, it moisturizes while soothing with essential oils.

How I’ll use it: I love oil cleansers, especially for removing makeup. So I will use this at night to wash my face and remove my makeup at the end of the day.

Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner
It instantly transforms from a cooling gel to a water toner as it clarifies, removes oil, and visibly tightens pores for clear, matte skin. Formulated to target oily and acne-prone skin concerns. It immediately melts from a treatment gel to a water toner as it is massaged into the skin.

How I’ll use it: I may use this in the morning if needed, but I will use each night after cleansing with the Blue Moon Cleansing Balm.

Luna Sleeping Night Oil
A next-generation retinol oil that boosts the look and feel of skin plumpness, while improving the appearance of wrinkles, redness, and pores for visibly younger-looking skin. Luna works throughout the night to deliver more visibly youthful, luminous, even-toned skin in the morning.

How I’ll use it: I will apply this before bed.

Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment
It’s formulated with high potency, purified grade lactic acid that immediately exfoliates dull, pore-clogging dead skin cells, revealing smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. Fine lines appear visually plumped while the skin looks more radiant.

How I’ll use it: After the Luna Sleeping Night Oil has sunk in, I will apply this on top of it.

Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream
An advanced brightening and refining treatment, infused into a next-generation water cream. It delivers an intense water drench with two forms of hyaluronic acid and tamarind extract so your skin looks youthfully hydrated and plumped.

How I’ll use it: If I feel like my skin needs some extra moisturizer, I will apply the water cream on top of the Good Genes treatment. I’ll probably alternate this with the Good Genes as well, depending on how my skin reacts to it.

Other uses:

Flash Facial Mask: Once a week, I will use two pumps of Good Genes and one pump Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser and leave on for 10 minutes for an immediately radiant, deep detox facial.

Alternate products I will continue to use:

There are two products that I will continue to use as needed:
TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL Xakziuza Cleansing Water – I’ll use this to clean off any remaining makeup off my face after using the cleansing oil.

GLAMGLOW SUPERMUD Activated Charcoal Treatment – I always use this in case I need to really clarify my skin or as a spot treatment for blemishes.

Alright so that is my plan!
